How to Master Content Repurposing for Your Creative Strategy

by | Mar 24, 2025

Recently, we discussed the benefits of content repurposing and how it can help you enhance your content strategy. In this article, we’re going to dive into the specifics of creative strategy for content repurposing. This will cover how you can repurpose content so that you can make the most out of your content creation and achieve your creative strategy targets.

First, a quick recap is in order: content repurposing is the process of taking a single piece of content and adapting, tailoring and re-sharing it across multiple new formats.

So, with the context established.

Let’s begin.

How Do You Identify The Best Types of Content to Repurpose?

The best way to approach this is to evaluate the extent of the time and resources invested in the creation of each respective piece of content.

How to Repurpose Video Content

With this in mind, video productions will almost always be your best choice to prioritise for repurposing. Here are some ways you can do this.

Social Media Clips:
This can include Instagram Reels or YouTube Shorts. The best option here is to identify a key point or highlight from the full video and edit the short to focus on and elevate this point. Ideally, this will encourage viewers to want to watch the full video.

Another great use of short video is for event content, like this short clip we shared of Alice Violet’s talk on How to Launch a Business Podcast at Hub 8’s Cyber Sips. This was a simple Behind the Scenes video shot with animations of the key takeaways, which performed strongly on LinkedIn and Instagram. Enabling us to showcase our talk beyond the Cheltenham ecosystem.

We also repurposed the talk into an article for our blog.

Social Media Posts:
You can take the key insights from a video and make it into a LinkedIn article or Instagram carousel. You can also share stills or behind-the-scenes material on the day of recording to maximise intrigue on more than one date.

Here is an example from one of our production days:

How to Repurpose Podcast Episodes?

Similar to video production, podcasting can be both time-consuming and expensive. However, this also means it can serve as effective core content for repurposing.

Video:
For those with the budget required, there are incredible benefits to filming your podcast. Notably, this will enable you to upload it to more visual platforms, such as YouTube, thereby increasing your audience range. Platforms like Spotify which were historically an audio platform are now prioritising video podcasts in their algorithms. We use this approach with our own podcast, Cyber Made Human.

Social Media Posts:
This point becomes all the more effective when implementing video into your podcast. You will be able to extract these from the video. If you cannot film your podcast, some behind-the-scenes photos will work here. You could also include soundbites with these. Just make sure the pictures are suitable! Audio only podcasts can also share simple animations with sound waves, although in 2025 these feel pretty outdated.

Article or Blog Post:
Similar to videos, podcasts translate very effectively into follow-up articles and can be a great way to reflect on topical discussion.

Key Creative Strategy Considerations For Successful Content Repurposing

With all of these insights in mind, there are some key points you need to consider to ensure that your content repurposing remains a practical part of your content strategy.

Timing:
Avoid repurposing content with a time limit or tied too heavily to one event. This especially applies to seasonal content or national events. For example, International Women’s Day content may not be as impactful when used in June rather than March. That would be the equivalent of making a post featuring a Christmas tree in April. So always check what graphics, images, or music you feature in your posts, and make sure you do a calendar check so that it is optimal. Make sure you also apply this to any topical or news-related content.

Be Selective:
While repurposing content is a great way to maximise your output, be mindful not to overdo it. No one wants to hear the same point twice, less so on five or more different occasions. The solution is to update your repurposed content with any new insights you have gained. This will help keep it fresh and showcase your progression. Remember, quality over quantity.

Review Your Audience Engagement:
If in doubt about the success of your repurposed content, you can refer to your analytics to measure your performance. If, after reviewing the number of likes or time spent on your content, you find that engagement levels are falling off, that may be a sign to retire that content.

Article or Blog Post:
AVC are a fan of reusing video content as articles; this enables an entirely new format to present and refresh the content. Often, we find audiences who watched the full video also consume the article.

Live Event Content:
Utilising stills from a video or working several clips into a montage can make for great content to highlight a point or topic you are making during a live talk or event. This is because it visually reinforces what you are discussing, helping to engage your audience.

Additionally, live event attendance can be limited by geography and the costs required to put them on. Repurposing your content enables you to maximise your audience reach to help mitigate people being unable to attend. Moreover, it will ensure you get the most out of your event investment, making this a cost-effective addition to your marketing strategy.

Below is an example of how we utilised this approach with a short events video we did for our client CyNam to showcase their panel from an investor event at Hub 8 in Cheltenham.

And Finally: Creative Strategy for Content Repurposing?

Remember, content repurposing is here to maximise your content output, not reduce or supersede it.

Always keep working on fresh ideas to ensure you are releasing the best content and achieving your overall goals. A viable strategy is creating a content calendar to help you track the best times to post topical content and your original works. If in doubt, focus on maintaining versatility. You will find aligning this type of content to key calendar events much easier than the inverse.
